Sam Jaffe as Professor Jacob Barnhardt and Michael Rennie as Klaatu in a scene from the 1951 film “The Day the Earth Stood Still“.

“Klaatu barada nikto” is a phrase in a language invented for the film, and used to bring the story to a close. Nobody really knows what it means, as the film’s writer, Edmund H. North, never revealed it.
